Every June in Las Vegas, The Applied Finance Group (AFG) puts on a conference (AFG Research Summit) for its clients to help expand their ability to use AFG’s research and investment tools, provide actionable buy ideas, host excellent guest speakers as well as entertaining social events. One popular conference event among clients is an annual survey of AFG’s client base on topics ranging from political, macro-economic and market related issues to get the predictions and views of a large and diverse group of seasoned portfolio managers and equity analysts. This survey has been successful in the past at predicting future market/economic events and movements based on James Surowiecki’s (author, “Wisdom of Crowds”) theory that "groups are remarkably intelligent, and are often smarter than the smartest people in them."
Being that this year’s conference is right around the corner (June 9, 2010) it is now time to revisit a few questions from last year’s survey to see if AFG clients predictions were on point or off base on the future of the economy and markets and find out how much wisdom was extracted from the AFG crowd.
Because this survey was such a hit with clients we have extended the idea behind our annual conference survey for clients into a monthly survey (Market Forecast Project) that is open to any investment professional or individual investor actively following the market.
